Mistake-Proofing Executive Overview (4 hours)


Description

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of the mistake-proofing process. Mistake-proofing is a powerful problem-solving technique that provides fast, accurate and effective solutions for most manufacturing-related problems. Its analysis methods can be used for all processes, whether they are technical or transactional. By following mistake-proofing practices, organizations can eliminate the possibility of producing defects. This course will be beneficial to any employee who has decision-making power in a manufacturing environment.

The course length is 4 hours and will include detailed instruction, periodic assessments, and a certificate of completion upon successful review.

Lesson 1: Introduction to Mistake-Proofing

  • Provide a brief overview of Mistake-Proofing
  • List five reasons why Mistake-Proofing is beneficial to a company
  • Discuss when to use Mistake-Proofing
  • Identify common perceptions that surround problems in products and processes
  • Describe the different levels of Mistake-Proofing
  • Identify the four steps associated with the Mistake-Proofing process

Lesson 2: Focus

  • Identify and describe the four steps of the Mistake-Proofing process
  • Provide criteria for selecting teams
  • Differentiate between macro- and micro-level flow diagrams
  • List seven ways in which an action can be flawed
  • Identify the steps associated with a cause analysis

Lesson 3: Cause Verification and Design Changes

  • Identify the five steps associated with verifying causes and flawed actions
  • Identify potential solutions to flawed actions, and discuss the order in which these solutions should be considered
  • List and describe basic design changes that can eliminate flawed actions

Lesson 4: Using Sensors for Solutions

  • Identify three ways in which flawed process actions can be detected through the use of sensors
  • Describe the ways in which flawed employee work processes can be detected through the use of sensors
  • Identify and describe three categories of sensors
  • List three types of technical solutions
  • Describe how to identify risks associated with a solution implementation plan
