Internal Auditing Executive Overview (4 hours)


Description

Internal audits are a key component of demonstrating to an organization's senior management that the quality system is both appropriate and effectively deployed. These audits are an important component of all ISO based quality standards. This course explores all facets of modern quality auditing, looking at the steps in the audit cycle. Internal quality auditors, audit program managers and other individuals involved in internal auditing would benefit from this course.

The course length is 4 hours and will include detailed instruction, periodic assessments, and a certificate of completion upon successful review.

Lesson 1: Introduction to the Audit Process

  • Define an audit and the reasons for conducting one
  • Distinguish between the various audit types
  • Recognize the various players in an audit
  • Identify the product of an audit

Lesson 2: Planning and Preparation

  • Describe the audit planning and preparation activities, including audit authority, schedule, purpose, objectives, scope, notification and agenda
  • Understand the role of standards in an audit
  • Explain how to resource an audit and prepare checklists
  • List the various audit documents and records
  • Explain how to prepare an audit plan

Lesson 3: Conducting the Audit

  • Identify the correct way to conduct a pre-audit or opening meeting
  • Define the purpose of the daily caucus meeting and the daily briefing meeting
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of objectivity and objective evidence
  • Identify the correct procedure for conducting a post-audit or closing meeting
  • Identify how audit findings and observations are classified
  • Articulate the requirements of a formal corrective action process
  • Explain the steps necessary to bring an audit to closure

Lesson 4: The Audit Team

  • Describe how to select, develop and train a professional audit team
  • Describe some insights into audit psychology
  • Differentiate between empathetic and sympathetic approaches to auditing
  • Identify the importance of auditor independence and ethics
