Data Collection Executive Overview (4 hours)


Description

This course introduces the basic elements of data collection planning, including explanations of data in its most basic forms and the reasons why unbiased data is of value to an organization. The course outlines the steps in obtaining a truly random sample from which to collect data. Once a sample has been obtained, a number of various data collection techniques can be used to record the observations of the data collectors. This course will be useful to anyone who is responsible for the collection of information used in process improvement efforts.

The course length is 4 hours and will include detailed instruction, periodic assessments, and a certificate of completion upon successful review.

Lesson 1: Planning and Methods of Data Collection

  • Identify and distinguish types of quantitative data, including nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio data
  • Identify the advantages and limitations of obtaining a sample from a larger population
  • Identify characteristics of random, systematic and stratified sampling
  • Identify the capabilities and usages of five data collection techniques (Check Sheets, Concentration Diagrams, Flowcharts, SIPOC Diagrams and Process Mapping)
